High-energy laser beam punching is not limited by mechanical properties such as material hardness, rigidity, strength, and brittleness. It is suitable for non-metallic materials that are generally difficult to process, such as ruby, sapphire, ceramics, artificial diamond, and natural diamond. Since most difficult-to-process materials have the characteristics of high strength, high hardness, low thermal conductivity, convenient work hardening, strong chemical affinity, etc., the factors such as large cutting resistance, high temperature, short tool life, poor surface roughness, and inclined surface punching make punching more difficult. The above problems will be solved by laser punching on these difficult processing materials. Almost all the gem bearings used in the Chinese watch industry are laser punched. Laser punching of artificial diamond and natural diamond is also common. Punching holes in cemented carbide with a thickness of 5.5mm with a depth ratio of up to L4:1, and a depth ratio of 1l.5mm thick can be punched. On L0mm thick hard silicon nitride ceramics, small holes with a diameter of 0.6mm can be easily punched. Especially in elastic materials, it is difficult to punch holes by general methods because elastic materials are easy to deform.
