In this process, a high-density beam is generated by exciting the laser material with an electrical discharge within a closed container. Optics are used to focus the generated laser beam onto the workpiece, effectively cutting it by melting, vaporizing or burning through it. The movement of the laser beam is controlled using CNC technology.
Laser cutting is a CNC cutting process where a high-powered laser is used to cut through materials.

Types of Laser Cutting Machines
There are three main types of lasers used in laser cutting machines. They are CO , Nd and Nd: Yag lasers.

Material Cutting with Laser
Laser cutting can be used to cut a variety of materials such as paper, wood, metal, rock, etc., but it is widely used in material removal, materials used in sheet metal manufacturing, such as: aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper and other metals
In general, laser cutters are well suited for cutting relatively thin sheet metal, with a maximum thickness of 15 mm for aluminum and 6 mm for steel. Their tolerance is typically 0.2 to 0.1 mm.
Advantages and Limitations of Laser Cutting
Because of the high precision of laser cutting, the finishing requirements for laser cut parts are minimal. Laser systems produce a small heat-affected zone, which reduces the need for post-processing heat treatment.
Compared to other cutting processes, laser cutting is more precise and more versatile (material-wise) than plasma cutting, but not as good as waterjet cutting.
Laser cutting is the most widely used due to its material versatility, precision, and ability to cut and engrave simultaneously (a process that waterjet cannot accomplish). It is also less expensive than waterjet cutting.

Laser Cutting Costs
The cost of laser cutting can vary greatly depending on the type of laser and the material chosen. The easiest way to get an idea of the price of a laser cutting project is to get multiple quotes and then decide on the final laser cutting manufacturer after proofing.
